Railings May Be Required by Code

While cities often have their own requirements, the State of Minnesota requires any stairway with four or more steps to include handrails. These handrails must be 34 inches high (36 inches for decks more than 30 inches above the ground) and extend the entire length of the stairway. Sound confusing?
